Variable Material Handler


The nature of our business necessitates that we maintain a flexible workforce in order to meet the
changing needs of our customers’ daily volumes. Variable Hour employees play an important role in
supplementing our regular workforce on high volume days.
Policy Definitions
* Variable Hour Employees - do not have a set schedule or consistent number of hours. Variable
Hour employees will be offered shifts on an as needed basis. These shifts will be no less than 2
hours. The employee will have the option of accepting the shift if they are available and willing
to work the offered shift. Once accepted, the employee will be held accountable for the shift
attendance. Total hours worked in a calendar month must average less than 30 hours a week.
* Regular Full-Time Employees - regularly scheduled to work 30 hours or more a week on a
consistent basis.
* Regular Part-Time Employees - regularly work less than 30 hours per week.
* Seasonal Employees - work during a defined period of time each year to supplement full-time
and part-time workforce during peak seasons.
Variable Hour employees may be paid a premium hourly wage at time of hire. This wage will be the
hourly rate paid for any shift accepted. Shift differential will not be offered. If a Variable Hour
employee’s status changes to Regular Full-Time or Regular Part-Time, the employee may be moved to a
lower wage classification reflecting the change in status and will then be eligible for any shift differential
associated with the full-time shift.
Variable hour employees are not eligible for the In Step compensation program. Variable hour
employees are eligible to participate in Pay for Performance programs, where applicable.
Unless required by law, Variable Hour employees are not eligible for Company benefits, including
medical, dental, disability, life insurance, 401k, paid time off, holiday pay, or bereavement pay.
Variable Hour employees may participate in the GEODIS Employee Purchase Program.
Due to the limited nature of this employment category, in cases of misconduct, policy violations, or
inability to meet performance standards, there may not be progressive discipline, but instead immediate
termination at GEODIS' sole discretion depending on the circumstances. Variable hour employees will
not be included in annual performance review process.
